The Ohio Democratic Party announced Monday that its delegation voted “overwhelmingly” to pledge its support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the presidential nominee at the 2024 Democratic National Convention next month in Chicago.
The state party’s 144 delegates attending the Democratic National Convention were previously set to nominate President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s nominee after he won the Ohio Democratic Primary in March.

However, the Ohio Democratic Party announced that its delegation to the convention met virtually and pledged their support for Harris after Biden endorsed the vice president following his exit from the 2024 presidential race.
“Tonight, our delegation is proud to overwhelmingly endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States,” Ohio Democratic Party Chair Elizabeth Walters said in a statement.
“Vice President Harris is a proven public servant who will be a strong fighter for Ohio’s workers and we’re ready to get to work to make sure that she and the rest of our Democratic ticket wins in November,” Walters added.
Hours after the Ohio Democratic Party and other Democratic state parties pledged their delegates to Harris, the vice president officially had secured enough pledged delegates to become the presumptive 2024 presidential nominee – less than 48 hours after Biden announced his departure from the race.

“When I announced my campaign for President, I said I intended to go out and earn this nomination. Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee,” Harris said in a statement late Monday night. “I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.”
“I am grateful to President Biden and everyone in the Democratic Party who has already put their faith in me, and I look forward to taking our case directly to the American people,” Harris added.
